As part of my Alphabetical series of work of women I have just finished my latest piece ‘Frida’ of the artist Frida Kahlo, a great influence to me, an inspiring female artist and individual. The painting is oil on board with Ink and Gold Leaf and measures approx 17 x 21.5 inches.
I wanted the picture to have the look of an icon, hence the gold border and to include a rich mixture of colour, flowers, nature and animals.
I have been wanting to paint her for a very long time, it wasn’t until a friend suprised me with a trip to the Pallant House Gallery, Chichester last year, to see an exhibition of Frida and her husband, Diego Rivera’s, work, that inspired me to start.
Unfortunately the exhibition has now finished, but I really suggest that you look out for further opportunities to see her work in the flesh.
